We completed the brake line and caliper install. We used new proportioning valves and brake lines from vansteel. The original brake calipers were in terrible (rusty) shape, but they weren't leaking, so we cleaned them up and repainted them with "stainless steel" color paint. In addition, we cleaned up the power steering pump and installed it, welded on new body mount cage nuts, reinstalled the harmonic balancer, the carb. brackers, timing cover, oil pan, and got the motor pretty much ready to go back in the frame.

The front clip of the vette had separated fromt he header bar behind the front headlights. The headlight buckets mount to this strip and if the fiberglass of the nose is not bounded to this, the headlights rub against the fiberglass when they open (as our 79 was doing). The root cause of this was that the header bar was badly rusted and had come loose from the fiberglass. Someone had tried to fix this before by applying some epoxy, but it did not hold. We pulled the old bar out and installed a new one. Our friends from Vansteel located one for us at a discount and we installed it with panel bonding adhesive, then clamped it down and let it set up for 2 days.

The key to the header bar install is making sure the surfaces have a roughed up surface for the epoxy to bond to.
