After getting our frame and frame parts back from Restoration Depot, we are ready to weld on new body mounts, then prep and paint. During the process of separating the body from the frame, we discovered that a majority of the metal body mount locations were badly rusted away. These points is where the body is supported on the frame, and therefor a very critical piece.

One of the #1, both of the #2, one #3 and both #4 body mount brackets have to be replaced. We contacted Caledonia Classic Cars, which manufactures these body mount brackets. They were happy to help contribute the brackets we needed, so that we could move on.

We carefully checked the mounting locations, then Casey welded the brackets to the frame. The stability of these brackets is very important, and we're glad we have Casey on the team. He does a GREAT job welding.

When we received our frame back from Restoration Depot, we noticed there were a couple of cracks on the underside near the from spring mounts. We knew the car had been hit in the front, but we didn't know how bad it was. Whoever repaired the frame when it was hit before, must have never welded anything before. None of us had ever seen such a poor job of welding. Casey welded up the cracks we found and reinforced the previous (poorly done) welds.

After the welding was complete, the next step was to prep the bare metal with an etching chemical. We sprayed on (lightly) a liquid referred to as "ospho" that will etch the metal for priming. The liquid can be sprayed inside the enclosed metal areas and moved around so that the liquid coats the interior surfaces. The liquid is then left to dry for 24 hours. The liquid etches the metal and leaves a powder that is then brushed off and the metal can then be painted or primed. Please excuse the lack of full body skin protection. It was 95 degrees and 95% humidity. We didn't have much choice.
