June, 2003 I was up in PA visiting my family and decided to check a couple junk yards to see if I could find a 1.6L, 16 valve motor from a tracker to put in my samurai. I found one from a 94 tracker for $500! I jumped on it. Within a week of getting back home, I started working on it. I ordered a transmission/motor mount adaptor kit from Trail Tough and shipped them my wiring harness so they could convert it.

I have to say Brent at Trail Tough went out of his way to help me with the conversion. They had my parts shipped and my wiring harness turned around and back in my hands in less than a week!! Now THAT is service.

Here's my old 92 EFI 1.3L, 8 valve motor.
I can't believe how easy it was to pull the stock motor. Within 1 1/2 hours, I had the motor out and disconnected from the transmission. Of course air tools help.
The 1.6 hooked up beautifully with the Trail Tough transmission adapter. It took a lot more time to get the new motor in than it did to get the old one out, but it wasn't that bad. A little transmission mount modification and cutting of one fan blade. The stock exhaust manifold hits the frame, but I'll handle that soon.
The labeling of each and every wire in the harness from Trail Tough made the installation a breeze. Now, what about the performance increase? Well, before the swap, I had a tough time doing any driving in 5th gear. Sometimes I could get to 60 mph, but most of the time I was shifting between 4th and 5th. I could never accelerate in 5th. Now, I can pretty much redline 5th gear. Now, it doesn't have Corvette power, but I can do 70+ now with the 31" Boggers. I'm happy, to say the least!
