February 2002. I was looking for a daily driver (to reduce the number of miles I was putting on my 2002 Corvette. A friend of mine said "we should buy a couple cheap Samurais and build them up and do some 4 wheeling." I thought "What the hell, my Mom had one back in the 80s and it was a pretty decent vehicle." I was driving by a Buy Here Pay Here place and saw this nice looking Sami. I drove it home the next day for $2,000 cash. This is the only photo I have of it stock.
March, 2002. Within a month I had done enough research on lifts to start the process. I decided to go with a Spring over axle (SPOA) lift from North Coast Offroad instead of a shackle reversal. We first removed the steering components and the front axle.
Next, we cut the spring perches off with an angle grinder; always wearing our OSHA approved protective clothing and shoes as you can see in the picture.
We then ground the surface of the axle housing for some good clean welding points and then welded the new spring perches on.
